Unity

Is unity really important? What does God have to say about it?

If you look at Genesis 11, it's the story of the Tower of Babel. Read through the beginning of that chapter and you will get a glimpse of just how powerful the principle of unity is.

The story starts with the people on earth speaking in one language and getting together for one specific purpose. They desired to build a tower to reach heaven; and in doing so, they hoped to make a name for themselves. They were searching for significance.

And God came down from heaven to see the city and the tower they were working on. If you read what comes next, He says,

“The people are united, and they all speak the same language.

After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!”

Genesis 11:5-6

The people were of one voice, one heart, one purpose, one focus; and in that unity, God acknowledged that nothing they set out to do would be impossible. WOW!

And so knowing that in what they were trying to accomplish, their motives were faulty, He confused their language so that the powerful principle of unity that they were operating within would no longer be at play.

Can we grasp the fact that when we walk in unity and in alignment with what the Father has called us to do, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE?

In 1 Corinthians 1, there is an exhortation for us as believers to agree with one another; and not to allow division or strife to have any place among us. We are called to be united in mind and thought.

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

1 Corinthians 1:10

Are you walking in unity in your life? In your church? Are there places, where division and strife have gained a foothold? Are you willing to lay those things down in exchange for walking in the unity that the Father desires for us?

As individuals,

As a church,

As the greater body of Christ….

Can you dream or even imagine what would be possible, if we determined to hear what the Father says, to do what He tells us to do; and if we chose to live and walk in unity with each other?

Father, if there are places in our lives, where we have allowed division or strife to have a hold; we repent. We ask for your forgiveness. We desire to walk in unity. We desire to hear your voice. We desire to answer the call that you have placed in each one of our lives. We want to show your love to the world and bring you glory. Thank you for revealing the truths and promises in your Word so that we may live life as overcomers, full of the power of the Holy Spirit. Have your way in our lives. Amen.
