When Grace Lifts

I've often taught others that when an assignment is 'done'.. and you don't let go, then you are now effectively doing that assignment in your own strength.
See, when God assigns something to you, He also gives you the grace to DO the assignment.
BUT... there comes a time when He may say, ' You're done now. Your part in the assignment is finished - you can step out or step away - and let others take it on. ' Problem with that, is many of us have an easier time taking 'on' assignments, than we do letting go of them. Let's face it, it's hard to stop something when there is still so much work to do!
Recently I have found myself having to learn to take my own advice. It was time to lay something down, but I didn't know how to. I wrestled with disappointing others, not to mention dealing with the fear of missing out - this was something I loved doing! It was fun! It touched lives!
So what do you do when God says that something will go on without you? What happens when He clearly says ' Stop.. finish.. let it go" ? Well that's where it gets hard!
Why is it hard? Not because you're letting go. It gets hard because when God assigns you to things, He also gives you sufficient grace to do the assignment. When He says 'stop', and you don't or can't or wont..the grace for the assignment lifts! That's right - the grace lifts and you end up doing that assignment in your own strength!
When grace is given, it lifts us - we rise beyond human effort. We can move forward despite obstacles, not because we are strong but because God's grace is working in us. His grace can literally elevate us to do things and go places we could never reach on our own.
BUT.. when that grace is lifted, we are still doing the assignment, still moving forward, but now it all depends on our own abilities and strengths.
Have you ever done that?! I know I have.
Can I encourage you today, that if you are finding your assignment coming to an end - don't fight it! Don't hang on to it!
Even if there is no one to take over or steps us to take it on - trust God. Let it go!
It's not an ending - it's actually a beginning!
Embrace the change.... It will be better than you can image!
